Few WhatsApp Quirky Tricks:

Refer or reply to a specific message

While talking on multiple topics or things on WhatsApp chat and need to reply to a specific message? WhatsApp allows you to reply to a particular message, to make it easy for the person to whom you are replying and of what you are replying to.

iOS: Chats > Specific chat > Specific message > Swipe left to right on message > Type in your reply and hit send.

Android: Chats > Specific chat > Specific message > Long Press > Hit reply.

Responding to a group text privately

Sometimes you may need to text a group as a whole privately in your one-to-one chat, without knowing you had a one-to-one chat you have with that special person.

iOS: Long press the message in group chat > Select More > Reply Privately. The message will appear in the one-to-one chat with a text box below like you used to reply to a text message.

Android:  Long press the message in group chat > Select the three buttons at the top right corner > Reply Privately. The message will appear in the one-to-one chat with a text box below like you used to reply to a text message.

Change words italic, bold, or strikethrough

Sometimes you want to highlight some words, to emphasize those words. For this, you don’t need to worry as WhatsApp allows you to bold, italic, or strikethrough whichever words or phrases.

For Both iOS & Android:

To bold a word you need to add an asterisk on either side of the *word* or phrase. Likewise, to italic any word or phrase, you need to add underscore either side _italic_. Add tildes to either side of the word or phrase for ~strikethrough~.

Mark chats as unread

If you have mistakenly read a message which doesn’t want to or don’t suppose to. Then don’t worry WhatsApp covers you here! There is a way to mark important chats with dot to remind you to go back to it though.

iOS: Chats > Swipe left to right > Mark as Unread.

Android: Press chat and hold> Open Menu > Mark as Unread.

See recent chats without opening WhatsApp

This feature is only for Apple users, they can check the unread messages without opening their device by adding WhatsApp Recent Chats widget to their device. Upto for main chats will appear on your lock screen, within the recent chats widget when you swipe left to right from your main home screen or lock screen.

The widget will show the circular profile picture icon with the number of unread messages you have. You can then click on the chat you want to read and WhatsApp will open on that specific chat.

iOS: Swipe left to right from your lock screen or your main home screen > Scroll down to the Edit icon at the bottom > Add the WhatsApp Recent Chats icon > Rearrange the order of your widgets.
